This pandemic is sometimes inappropriately remembered as the "Spanish flu". Unlike other influenzas, this one was particularly impactful on young adults - the same age group being recruited for World War I. Between one-third and one-half of people contract the flu. 

Compared to other communities, Framingham fares well, in large part because of the public health practices that are in place from the Tuberculosis Demonstration.
