Framingham receives additional COVID-19 vaccine doses and other resources from the state as part of the Vaccine Equity Initiative.
As the pandemic wears on, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health uses COVID-19 incidence rates and the CDC's Social Vulnerability Index to identify communities whose populations are disproportionately affected by COVID-19. Framingham is selected as one of twenty communities across the state whose population has been hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Initiative provides tailored messaging and community outreach, mobile vaccine services, and support for community health centers and local boards of health. In doing so, the initiative reduces barriers to access and directly addresses trust concerns related to the COVID-19 vaccine among populations whom have experienced years of mistreatment in the medical system.
